Scottie (Metalpoint on toned metalpoint paper): While in Timmins Ontario in the winter I did this quick metalpoint drawing, using silver and lead on specially prepared silverpoint paper.
Katerina: Metalpoint on toned paper. This is another drawing done while in Timmins Ontario. A picture discovered on the Internet gave me an interesting pose. Very few portraits have been tried by myself with a side angel, but I am pleased with the result. This is a metalpoint drawing, using silver and lead on specially prepared silverpoint paper.
At Halfway Lake (Watercolour on paper): A sketch I did in the fall of 2016 at halfway lake provincial park.
At Halfway Lake 2 (Watercolour on paper): Another sketch I did in the fall of 2016 at halfway lake provincial park. This from a different area but it has the same outcropping appearing on the left.
Autumn in Algonquin (Oil on panel): A fast painting of the gorgeous colours that you find in Algonquin in the fall.
Carol Lombard (Silverpoint on panel): Although a sketch to define my silverpoint grounds, it's of one of the beautiful women of early Hollywood. Watching "My Man Godfrey," it's easy to fall in love with this sweet lady.
Study of Käthe Kollwitz Woman with Dead Child (Watercolour pencils on paper): This was a 30 minute sketch of a Kollwitz print that I did in a drawing from the vaults class at the Art Gallery of Ontario. It was done as a compositional study.
Looking down the French River (Oil on panel): Standing on the snowmobile bridge over the French River just south of Sudbury.
Marilyn (Silverpoint on panel): I mixed a silverpoint ground using a recipe I found and used it for this silverpoint drawing of Marilyn Monroe. As it was just testing the ground I didn’t put on may coats and so the grain of the support is showing through. I did the same mistake with bottle and glass.
Morgan (Pencil on paper): Wendy’s had a series of commercials featuring a pretty redhead. Her name is Morgan Smith Goodwin.
Open Hands (Silverpoint on panel): A quick sketch to try a silverpoint ground.
Study of Whistler's Nocturne: The River at Battersea (Watercolour pencil on paper): Another from drawing from the vaults at the Art Gallery of Ontario, I tried using colour in the composition even though the original had none.
Bottle and Glass (Silverpoint on panel): This is a sketch I did while I was testing a silverpoint ground. I wish I had prepared the panel better because the drawing turned out nice.
Table in Coffee Shop (Watercolour pencils on paper): A table in the corner in a coffee shop in Timmins Ontario. With watercolour pencils I quickly sketched the scene and then finished it off with water back at the apartment.
Empty campground in the fall (Oil on panel): On a beautiful autumn day in Algonquin I came across this empty campground. It was a quiet spot.
On this page you will see some of my better sketches. They range from pencil and metalpoint to paint.
